Group Fitness Classes
Group fitness classes are a great way to learn a variety of exercise styles. Through group fitness, you are exposed to a community of people with similar goals who are seeking a healthy lifestyle. We offer a variety of exciting, fun, and dynamic group fitness classes on a weekly basis that are free through an HRC membership. Below you will find information on the various classes offered each semester.
Group Fitness Schedule

Cycle – A fun and positive indoor cycling experience combining a variety of hills, surges, sprints, and more, all set to the pace of motivating, high energy music. Includes warm up and cool down. Participants choose their own intensity; all experience levels are welcome.
Express Cycle – This 30-minute class will take you through a high energy class that is designed to give you a great work out in a short amount of time. All experience levels are welcome.
Hapkido/ Self-defense – Hapkido incorporates a variety of techniques, including joint locks, throws, choking, and holds. It also includes striking and kicking to gain an advantage over an opponent by using technique to offset their balance and apply leverage. This allows the practitioner to control the confrontation and avoid creating unintended injury.
Namaste Fit – This yoga inspired strength class is designed to improve your strength, stability, stamina, and overall daily function. All individuals are welcome and modifications are provided for every level of strength.
Pilates – This class encompasses strength, core training and stability along with focused breathing techniques. A great compliment to traditional cardio and strength work for all fitness levels.
Yoga – A guided yoga class that leads you through a series of standing and seated postures. There is an emphasis on linking the breath with mindful movements. This class incorporates static and dynamic movements and invites you to explore the sensations in the body throughout each posture. All levels are welcome.
Yin Yoga – a slow-paced, meditative style of yoga that focuses on stretching and relaxing deep connective tissues in the body.
Zumba – a high-energy dance-based fitness class, for all skill levels, that combines Latin and international music and dance with cardio exercise moves. Don’t miss the party!

Customized Group Fitness is a Recreation & Wellness service available for students, faculty, and staff who would like to reserve a group fitness instructor to teach a class for a special event or for their department, office, organization, etc.
Submit your request for a Customized Group Fitness Class here. Please submit requests no later than 10 business days prior to your event.
When are classes?
Class times will change each semester based off of the availability of our instructors and the Butler University academic calendar. To stay up to date on our group fitness schedule each semester, check back to this web page or follow @BURecWell on Instagram.
Do Group Fitness classes cost money?
The cost of classes is already included in the student activity fees, which all full-time students pay at the beginning of the school year. Group fitness classes are also free for anyone with a valid HRC membership. If you are interested in planning a Customized Group Fitness class for a private event or group, a small fee will be requested. Can Faculty and Staff take classes?
Yes, all classes are open to all Faculty and Staff members.
Where are the classes located?
Most of the Group Fitness Classes are located in the Group Fitness Studio, on the lower level of the HRC. Some classes are also held in The Zone, which will always be indicated on the Group Fitness schedule.
How early should I arrive for class?
We recommend arriving 10 minutes prior to the start time of class if you are able to. New participants may want to arrive early and introduce themselves to the instructor so the instructor and give them a preview of the class.
